Jack in the Box Inc. Q3 Earnings Conference Call

People
At Jack in the Box, we want our employees to be as passionate about their jobs as we are about serving the best-tasting burgers in the business. Whether they work in a Jack in the Box restaurant, or at one of our distribution centers, or at the corporate headquarters, each employee brings an array of special talents, skills and experiences to their job. Jack in the Box values diversity, and it's this culture that creates opportunities for each employee to grow within the company, be successful and achieve his or her personal goals, while helping to fulfill the company's objectives.

The company's dedication to its employees was recognized in 2005, when Jack in the Box received the first-ever Spirit Award given by Nation's Restaurant News and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. We received the award for our innovative workforce programs that foster employee satisfaction.

Benefits
Jack in the Box offers a variety of positions for every interest and skill level in the restaurant industry. To attract and retain the best and brightest employees, from crew members to managers, Jack in the Box offers competitive salaries and attractive benefits packages, including medical, dental and vision coverage, vacation pay, flexible schedules, retirement benefits and advancement opportunities. Restaurant managers, regional and corporate employees are eligible for additional benefits, including tuition reimbursement and life insurance.

Training
Jack in the Box provides training opportunities for all employees. For crew members, who represent the majority of our 45,000 employees, the company provides ongoing training in restaurant operations and customer service.

In 2004, Jack in the Box replaced its training videos with an interactive computer-based training system. Employees now use a touch-screen terminal to navigate training topics easily, and quizzes throughout the program provide immediate feedback and opportunities for learning.

Jack in the Box also offers “on-boarding” to new employees to facilitate a smooth transition into their roles with the company. Whether they are crew members or senior managers, through the on-boarding process new employees can learn about the organization, our core restaurant business, and their own jobs at Jack in the Box.

In 2005, Jack in the Box began offering English-as-a-Second Languange (ESL) program called "Sed de Saber," which means "Thirst for Knowledge." The program includes an electronic kit that restaurant employees can use at home to improve their English skills. The program's curriculum covers restaurant communication as well as general life skills.

Employee Assistance Programs
Jack in the Box takes a keen interest in the welfare of its employees. The Jack in the Box Contrib Club, for example, is a disaster-relief fund established in 1971 that provides financial aid to employees who are victims of natural or personal disasters. Funded entirely by employees, contributions are made through The Jack in the Box Foundation.

On a regional level, Jack in the Box restaurants also provide training programs that enable people with disabilities to develop valuable work skills and be matched with positions within the restaurants that fit their abilities.

Americans with Disabilities Act
In addition to providing employment to persons with disabilities, all new Jack in the Box restaurants are designed with our disabled guests in mind. Existing restaurants have also been remodeled to improve accessibility and convenience for disabled guests in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The multi-million-dollar renovation, which was completed in 2003, included numerous capital improvements and new-restaurant enhancements, ranging from designated parking spaces and wheelchair ramps to wider doors and larger bathrooms.
